  2. Hi, my name is Carla. My paper is about legalizing marijuana. The problem is all the drug cartels and smugglers. The solution would be to legalize.
    Thesis Statement
Legalizing marijuana would not stop the drug trade, let alone stop all the harsher drug consumption, but it would put a damper on their business. Drug cartels in today’s society are concerned with the legalization of marijuana. Half the income for Mexican drug smugglers come from marijuana making them tax free money.
    Abstract
This paper will discuss how legalizing marijuana would stimulate the economy with billions of dollars and put a damper on the business of the drug cartels. It will also discuss the benefits for medicinal purposes.

    1. I do agree with you Carla that legalizing will not stop drug trade and that it will put a damper on their business. I believe it should be legalized and have for years...outrageously tax it like they do cigarettes and alcohol and find a "good" use for that tax money. Not just to line the pocket of a politician!!

    2. Yes Jeanna!! The prohibition of alcohol didn't work. I don't think the prohibition of marijuana is going to work either. There is no lethal dose of marijuana, so therefore, you are not going to overdose or die from it. It's not a cure, but researchers have found the drug very therapeutic for some diseases.

    3. The prohibition ironically has been what motivates people to do the "illegal" things. Ironicall, what is legal is what does some harm...I was talking to one of my friends who is a MD candidate yesterday. He stated that next to automobile accidents--accidental drug overdose kills people the fastest in Ohio---wow!!

    4. I saw a program on tv about the benefits of marijuana on terminally ill patients such as cancer and it helped them deal with the pain in their last days. I also feel like it would help other health problems but the issue lies with the controlling what we can and can not do. Cigarettes are legal but look how many people it kills a year...its all about money and control...i think.

  3. Hello, my name is Keith. The topic of this paper is Ecot, does it provide a sound way of education for the youth of today's society or it more damaging than good that it is intended?Futher more, should there a more extensive background check on the student and their family before they are granted
    the use of the service.
By having the school evaluate the purpose for use of Ecot to the student, it can be better determined if the effect is detrimental to everyone in the whole picture.
The discussion in this paper will be attacking the abuse of the services and the some benefits provided the children that do require Ecot. And there for restrictions that the school should have before granting service, as well as guidelines to the cable company before installation. That would have preventative locks for certain internet access to the account.

    1. Keith...I can see where this could get out of hand with someone who is not using it for the intended purpose which is education. Do you know what background checks are done on students/parents requesting this? And what are valid reasons for wanting to use Ecot instead of traditional home schooling? I think you are onto something with having access only available at certain times. Kids in traditional schools have a schedule so maybe this should also!

    2. As I stated before, I am an employee of one of ECOT's major competitors. Learn at your own pace is the design used in both organizations. Issue is as you stated, ECOT uses unsupervised monitoring of school computers and internet, whereas we are blended and monitor what is going on on the computers both virtually and visually. Great job Keith!

  4. I've done a reading of the first two and can I state I am proud. Sure it's some grammar I'll hit, but I'll save that for tomorrow. Carla and Keith your two statements are exemplary.

    Carry on!

  6. Hello, my name is Jeanna. My paper is about the need for more organ donors and more public awareness to the advantages of life saving donations. A solution would be to implement more public service announcements on the issue and also make becoming a donor more readily available than most are aware of at the DMV.

    Thesis Statement:
80% of participants in a survey stated that, if they were to die, they would want to donate one or more of their organs for a patient in need of a transplant yet only 52% of Ohioans have granted permission on their drivers license.

    Abstract:
This paper will discuss and attempt to persuade the reader to donate their organs and tissues when they die and to act upon their decision to donate allowing the gift of life to live on in others.

    1. i think that this is going to be a great paper, because i for one have no education on this subject, only of what i have seen with a family member. I honestly believe if i knew more then maybe i would feel more comofortable about being a donor.

      Delete
    2. I believe being an organ donor is a great idea. Think of how many lives you could save. What if it were your child or parent in need? Wouldn't you try everthing possible to save them?

      Delete
  7. Only 52 percent? Wow! But you can't blame some because of maybe personal beliefs or religious beliefs. Because there is alot of muslamic people that live in Ohio.

    ReplyDelete

    1. Jeanna, I think you remember our debate in law and ethics. It's true that a lot of religions are opposed to organ and tissue donation. They have their own beliefs about having the body intact. For instance the gypsies believe that the soul retraces its steps for one year after death, therefore they need to have the body intact.

      Delete
    2. Good point Carla, but in all honesty, if you would narrow it down with all of the religious beliefs and groups, the Gypsies are about only a small percent, i don't feel that 5 out of 10,000 if that, would make make that much of a difference. I think that what people are afraid of is that the medical profession would not go to great extinctions to keep them alive knowing that they are a organ donor. And that falls into place of not "trusting" your life in someone Else's hands.

  8. Carla, I don't think it will ever be legalized because the government probably stands to get a bigger cut in the long run if they continue to say it is illegal ....

    1. Keith, I think you're right. There are so many dirty people out there who are all about money and power. But, you never know. 16 of our states have already legalized it for medicinal purposes, including D.C.!

  10. Ok! I have to say it! I keep checking this blog and only Jeanna, Keith, and myself, are the only ones blogging on it. It's kind of hard to respond to two when you only have two to respond to. Keith, I will be responding to yours later. Oh wait!! I forgot! We do have a fourth person. Instructor Henry!!

    1. I think legalizing marijuana will do far more good than harm. It has already been proven to have medicinal qualities so my question is....What are they waiting on???

    Drug testing welfare recipients
educate people on reasons and ways to drug test welfare recipients

THESIS: Welfare recipients should be required to take a drug test to be eligible for benefits. Many people who work are required to pass drug tests, welfare recipients should as well. The hard working taxpayers help the poor out, it should only be fair they are equally treated.

Abstract: This paper will discuss why it is important on drug testing welfare recipients and what methods should be used.

    1. In my opinion, even though that you are receiving any type of government assistance, the purpose of having it is to help you to get on your feet and back up running. But for the soul purpose of what it has come down to is that, We as Americans have been as a since of having our standards lowered, so why would you take from someone that is already down in life. The issue is that the government is running out of people to BULLY on. Lets drug test the people that are in a "government" holding job that is trying to get the bill past and start at the top not the bottom.

      Delete
    2. I have to agree with u 110% on this they should have to be drug tested as most people who work are drugtested to be able to keeo thier jobs.

      Delete
    3. I agree with you on the fact that they should have to be drug tested, but my concern with this is that maybe they will argue that this is an invasion of their privacy, although I personally do not see it as that.

    Racisim against biracial children
Not a clear solution, more of exploration of options
Thesis:Although racism against biracial children is still prominent in the United States, it is something that, with today’s advancements, can be addressed and perhaps even overcome through persistence and the compassion of parents.
Abstract: Within this document, the reader will find that racism against biracial children is an extreme problem in the United States. Although many do not experience this racism firsthand, they may not see it, but it does exist and it does cause many problems. The researcher will examine all the different ways that this specific racism affects the children involved, not only the biracial children, but also the children being raised by racists parents. While exploring and looking in depth at these issues the researcher finds that solving a problem this large is almost impossible, given that every human being has different things that influence their beliefs and values, but the researcher will take you into the minds of people who have raised or are raising biracial children, the biracial children, and the racist people, in order to get a more explanatory view on this unfortunate plague in America. Ultimately the researcher will show you that even if this problem may never be solved; there are things that each person can start doing to prevent racism in their homes and in the homes of people that they love.

    1. I just do not believe there is a solution. You will always have one ignorant person in every crowd. As hard as anyone tries to overcome this issue, you will have just as many rallying against it.

    2. I agree with tkay, this will forever be an ongoing problem that will never be solved. Too many people believe it to be one way and that way only.

    3. yea i know this could never be solved overall but i do believe that we can overcome it within our own families and friends, thats more or less what i am trying to stress

  14. This is Tkay. My paper is on the problem of suspending licenses and jail time for non-payment of child support. I think instead of jail time there should be work programs or some other way of getting the "non-paying" parent to pay. If the parent is incarcerated there is definately no money coming in so with a work program they may not make as much money but what is earned can be given to the providing parent.
Thesis... The incarceration of dead-beat parents isn't solving the problem of non-payment of child support.
Abstract....I am going to write this paper ways to figure out how to get the parents that don't pay child support out of jail and into work programs where they can earn a sum of money each day that can be paid into child support.

    1. I like your solution, it would create more room in jails for more serious crimes.

      Delete
    2. Incarcerating people for non payment of child support is absurd. For some people, it's not that they are deadbeat parents, it's just a matter of making ends meet. If they have a job that can hold out for child support, which is what I did, then it's all good. But with the economy the way it is right now, sometimes it's hard to fork out that money. They are not trying to be a deadbeat parent, they are just trying to live as well.

      Delete
    3. Tkay I agree with they can not pay anything if they r in jail or have no way to get to work. It would also make more room in the jails for people who really need to be there. Good work :)

My problem is teen pregnancy. My solution is to form a group of teen parents to go around and talk to middle and high dchool kids about their experiences and maybe it could change their minds.

    Sample Abstract:
This paper is going to be about one of the most commonly known problems with teens today; pregnancy. It will dicuss why it is a problem and a solution on maybe making it less of a problem.
